Colorado Springs police say they are responding to an “active shooting incident” on Friday evening near Austin Bluff’s Open Space in the northeast part of the city. No injuries have been reported.
Police said it is an “active scene, large perimeter.”
“We have no officers that have been injured at this point,” Colorado Springs police spokesman Lt. Howard Black said. “Preliminary information would tell us that shots were fired.”
Black said officers are focused on trying to arrest a suspect. He said preliminary information is that shots were fired at officers heading into the scene.
“We are still very active in getting this suspect into custody,” Black said. “We have numerous resources on the scene.”
Black added: “We have no officers that have been injured up to this point. We know of no civilians who have been injured at this point either.”
Photos from the area show a mass of emergency vehicles.
Authorities said they were looking for a man and told people not to approach the suspect. Anyone who sees anything unusual in the area should call police.
“Active shooting incident on N. Union Blvd,” Colorado Springs police said in a tweet Friday afternoon. “Situation not safe at this time. Several streets in the area are closed, and citizens are asked to avoid the area. Citizens in the area are asked to stay inside and away from windows.”
The scene is near the intersection of North Union Boulevard and Vickers Drive, police said.
Investigators said an emergency notification was being sent out to area residents.
