The Kentucky Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals have some common ground right now in recruiting high school standout Tay Kinney.
The Kentucky native has been quite the focal point for both programs over the past few weeks and has recently made some interesting comments about both teams.
Kinney, the rising senior, averaged 20.1 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game last season alongside his teammate and now Kentucky Wildcat Jasper Johnson.
Pope has secured Johnson and is now hoping to do the same with Kinney.
The top recruit was recently interviewed by Kentucky Sports Radio’s Jack Pilgrim and had some fun comments about his friend and former teammate.
“I’m just gonna say one player, Jasper Johnson, I’m a better overall player than him. I can shoot better than him, dribble better than him, dunk better than him,” Kinney told KSR.
Of course, this was a fun joke from Kinney, but he has been seriously considering the Wildcats the past few weeks and has a top-20 visit scheduled as well.
“It’s lit, they had Kentucky on fire, you know? Most of my family, they’re Kentucky fans,” Kinney said when asked about Lexington.
But that is not the only program in the state that Kinney is looking at... He is still very interested in Louisville as well.
“We got a great relationship, a great relationship. Louisville fans are definitely pulling for me, I don’t know about Kentucky fans, they said a couple things that are crazy. But they’re definitely pulling for me, some of them. They just say stuff about other players,” he said.
It is clear both programs are very high on his list, and it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out for him over the next year.
