PM calls for greater economic cooperation with Kenya
NAIROBI, July 20 (Yonhap) -- South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon called Friday for greater economic and business cooperation with Kenya, saying tremendous synergy will be possible if Kenya's rich resources and South Korea's technology are combined.
Lee made the remark during a forum in Nairobi for business leaders of the two countries on the second day of his visit to the African nation, stressing that the economic structure of the two countries are mutually supplementary.
Lee also emphasized that Kenya is South Korea's biggest trading partner in East Africa and that South Korea hopes to participate in projects to realize Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta's economic development goal, known as "Kenya Vision 2030."
"Kenya is continuing to make large-scale investments in energy and infrastructure areas in an effort to become a mid-income nation. South Korean companies are widely recognized for their capabilities in those areas," Lee said during the forum.
Lee also said South Korea is willing to use and share its experience and know-how to help Kenya further develop its agricultural, fisheries and healthcare sectors.
Joseph Mucheru, Kenya's information and communications minister, said he's grateful to Lee for visiting Kenya in the first stop of his trip to the region and that Kenya looks forward to greater cooperation with South Korea as his country hopes to develop a digital economy.
