Muslim teen Ahmed Mohamed, who found fame crafting a DIY clock that was mistaken for an explosive, returned to the United States for summer vacation after moving to Qatar with his family.
A flurry of cameras and journalists were waiting for the 14-year-old boy at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, where he hugged several loved ones — including his grandmother — anxious to see him at the arrivals gate Monday.
“I missed them so much,” he told reporters at the airport.
He recently wrapped up classes in Qatar and returned to “go on a little break” and tour the country. Seeing friends and family in Irving is Mohamed’s first order of business.
He has been invited to visit Facebook, MIT and NASA, he told KDFW-TV.
Mohamed was arrested in September after a teacher at Irving Macarthur High School accused the student of bringing a bomb to school, but he was quickly released. His family questioned whether he was mistreated due to his religion and eventually left Irving after reporting threats.
“I didn’t think people would care because I was just another Muslim student and I got arrested,” he added.
