Nasa is preparing for a major announcement today.

The space agency, based in the USA, has confirmed it will be making an announcement after discovering something in space.

Nasa's planet-hunting telescope reportedly made the discovery.

Typically, Nasa only holds such events for significant breakthroughs.

So, naturally, this has led to speculation about what the Kepler space telescope might have found.

Nasa has said is that it will hold an event at 1pm eastern time, or 6pm in the UK.

It will be livestreamed on its website.

NASA officials said: “The discovery was made by researchers using machine learning from Google.

“Machine learning is an approach to artificial intelligence, and demonstrates new ways of analysing Kepler data.”

Four scientists will be at the event, NASA Washington Astrophysics Division director Paul Hertz, Google AI software engineer Christopher Shallue, astronomer Andrew Vanderburg and Kepler project scientist Jessie Dotson.
