General Atomics names Jim Mosquera Chief Technology Officer

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems has named Jim Mosquera its vice president and Chief Technology Officer.

Mosquera is tasked with developing a new generation of high-tech products for the San Diego-based company that specializes in power generation equipment for defense and industry.

“Jim’s trusted reputation serving within the nuclear Navy and his extensive experience in strategic planning, engineering, science and technology and programmatic leadership makes him well suited to support our strategic growth initiatives,” said company president Scott Forney in a news release. “We are very pleased to bring him on board as a member of our senior leadership team. We look forward to his contributions and insights as we continue to expand our portfolio of leading-edge advanced weapon systems, technologies and products to support our nation’s military operations.”

A former Navy officer, Mosquera, 60, carved out a civilian career at the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (Naval Reactors), a joint program of the Navy and Department of Energy that oversees atomic power generation on more than 80 warships and 100 plant reactors.

Mosquera received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering with honors from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He also graduated from the Naval Reactors Bettis Reactor Engineering School in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania.

He served as a senior member of the task force probing the 2013 Washington Navy Yard shooting that claimed a dozen lives.

Mosquera also helmed the Space Shuttle Columbia Accident Investigation Board Independent Assessment Team.

With more than 37 years engineering, science and technology leadership, he’s a recipient of the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Group Achievement Award and Exceptional Achievement Medal for work on the Colombia probe.
